Trainings

Reporting on Addiction offers training for both journalists themselves and the people working in addiction spaces who want to improve media coverage but may not know where to start.

Our trainings are for:

  1. Professional and student journalists

We provide newsroom level trainings that discuss the latest in addiction science, how stigma can unintentionally appear in our reporting, and how to use our resources to improve your stories. These customized training sessions and webinars meet your needs in a given city, state or region.

  2. Addiction medicine and addiction science experts

We provide group trainings to prepare you to translate your message to a broader audience. You’ll come away with a basic understanding of how journalists do their jobs, best practices for interacting with the media, and how to cultivate relationships with journalists in your community to improve coverage today and into the future.

  3. Addiction advocates and community activists

We provide group trainings that focus on empowering you in your interactions with local, regional and national journalists. You’ll come away with a basic understanding of how journalists find you and make decisions about their reporting, best practices for interacting with the media, and how to cultivate relationships with journalists in your community to improve coverage today and into the future.
